My husband wants to save money and said that we can both hire the same lawyer. I told him that I never heard of that, but my husband said we should do it. Should I go along with this?
No, it is a conflict of interest for one attorney to represent a couple going through a divorce. The reason that it is considered a conflict of interest is that there are advantages and disadvantages on virtually every issue. If the attorney is trained and identified as a mediator, then yes, only a mediator may work with both parties. Years ago, I also heard of an attorney who represented both parties, but, I haven’t heard about that lawyer since. |
